China Ends Mandatory Health Declarations for Travelers: What You Need to Know
The recent decision of China ending mandatory health declarations for travelers is a significant development in the travel industry. This change was announced by China’s General Administration of Customs on Tuesday, stating that individuals entering or exiting the Chinese mainland from Nov 1, will no longer need to comply with this requirement.
China ends mandatory health declarations for travelers, meaning both inbound and outbound passengers will no longer need to fill in the entry or exit health declaration form. This decision is in accordance with the Frontier Health and Quarantine Law and its implementation rules. However, it’s critical to note that certain conditions still apply.
Individuals who display symptoms of infectious diseases such as fever, cough, difficulty breathing, vomiting, diarrhea, skin rash, unexplained subcutaneous bleeding, or those already diagnosed with infectious diseases must voluntarily report their health status to customs officers. This is a necessary step to ensure safety even after China ends mandatory health declarations for travelers.
Cooperation with customs in carrying out health quarantine procedures, including temperature checks, epidemiological investigations, medical examinations, and sample testing, remains mandatory for people exhibiting infectious disease symptoms. Failure to comply or attempts to conceal or evade these quarantine measures will result in corresponding legal responsibilities. The implications can become severe if these actions result in the spread of infectious diseases or pose a serious transmission risk.
The decision of China ending mandatory health declarations for travelers marks a shift from the quarantine declaration system adopted in January 2020 as a measure to combat COVID-19.
