Foreign nationals who enter China on an M visa for business and trade activities, invited by a company in Shanghai, can now apply for an extension within China if their plans are not completed within the visa’s validity period without needing to leave and re-enter the country.
3. Impact of Foreign Experts Bureau System Migration on Work Visa Processing
Since June 3, 2024, 9:00 AM, the process of applying for a work visa requires accessing the “Foreigner’s Work Management Service System” and “Foreign Expert Project Management Information System” through the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security’s National Public Service Platform (www12333.gov.cn).
With this system migration, the registration for new accounts may be slower. It is advised to start the process early if you plan to start a company or hire foreign nationals.
4. Educational Degree Validity Requires Historical Documentation
For degrees obtained in China to be recognized abroad, they must be verified through an educational verification process. Unfortunately, the Chinese Higher Education Information website cannot verify degrees issued before 1990. Applicants must retrieve their previous educational registration and the ID card used at that time to meet the verification requirements.
5. Implementation of the Five-Year Capital Contribution System for Enterprises

With this new law, the subscribed capital system is initiated where the total amount of capital subscribed by shareholders must be fully paid within five years from the date of company registration.
6. Changes in the Requirements for Spousal Reunion Permanent Residence Application
