How to apply for a certificate of non-criminal record?

In order to apply for various types of visas to China, foreigners are required to provide proof of no criminal record. So, what materials do you need to submit for application of a non-criminal record?

 

Application for proof of no criminal record, materials to be submitted:

  • Copy of passport
  • A copy of the visa page during your stay in China (if you have an old passport, you will need to provide it together)
  • Color scan of the earliest entry stamp and final exit stamp
  • Copy of temporary accommodation registration certificate (if available, please provide)
  • If you apply for a student visa, you need the name of the school; if you apply for a work visa, you need the name of the company.
  • In addition, some cities also need to provide the address of the original place of residence and the local police station.

Notes: It is best to have a photo or copy of your temporary residence permit.

 

The application for non-criminal record certification is mainly divided into two types: overseas application and domestic application. Domestic applications apply to foreigners who have resided in China for more than one year and submit applications in China. Foreigners who have resided in China for less than one year or apply abroad are required to apply overseas.

For foreigners applying for domestic applications, the application process is as follows:

  • Go to the local police station to check your non-criminal record
  • Notarization of the certificate of non-criminal record at the notary office
  • Certification of non-criminal record certificates at the China Foreign Affairs Office
  • Carrying a certificate of no criminal record in Chinese and native language versions, go to the foreign consulate in China for approval

 

In addition, if you are a student studying in China and want to apply for a work visa, you will need a certificate from the school security department.

For foreigners applying for overseas applications, the application process is as follows:

  • Go to the local police, security, courts and other departments for applying certificate of non-criminal record. (Application departments vary from country to country.)
  • Prepare the Chinese version and the national language version of the certificate of non-criminal record provided by the country.
  • The Chinese Embassy in the country certifies the certificate of no criminal record.
  • After entering the country, you will receive a new certificate from the local Chinese police station.
  • Go to the notary office to notarize the new permit.

 

Generally, the processing period for a non-criminal record application is 15 working days, but the specific circumstances are based on individual circumstances.
